A place to share my thoughts by Joreel Siegel

Sail 2010

Just the other day I realized it has been quite a while since I wrote on my blog. What started out as a fun idea has faded away. A real shame, because I really enjoy writing my blog. So today I bring to you a new blogpost, finally!

And the chosen topic, the -hard to miss - Amsterdam Sail 2010.

Sail is an event that brings buckets full of boats to our capital city every 5 years. Small boats, big boats, shiny boats, old boats, weird boats, loud boats and of course the famous Tall Ships (and everything in between). For five days Amsterdam is filled with boat-loving people from all over the globe.

And it all started yesterday with the famous Sail In parade. The (Tall) ships all arrive at the port of Ijmuiden, from where they make the trip to Amsterdam accompanied by dozens of small boats. It's a treat for the eyes, especially if you have first-rank seating in your parent's pad. Chillin' while being served fresh bagels and watching the ships sail by is an absolute pleasure, and I left with a camera filled with pictures and feeling quite happy to have witnessed such a rare event.

During the next weekend the public is granted access to these fabulous ships, which not only include the Tall Ships like Americo Vespucci, Kruzenshtern, Stad Amsterdam and Gotheborg. You can also see submarines, navy ships and all sorts of other special ships and boats.

Tomorrow I will be able to see Sail from the water so hopefully the weather will be just as nice as it has been the pas few days. If you're also going to see Sail 2010, have fun! I know I will!
